Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU)

Formed in 1927, the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is the peak council and national centre representing the unionized Australian workforce. The ACTU holds a Congress every three years that sets out a clear set of policies and objectives for unions. The core activity of unions remains the improvement and representation of workers through workplace and industry activity and collective bargaining. The ACTU also has policies on a range of other issues which affect workers, their families and their communities.
