Action research.
Organizational development - particularly in its 1960s and 70s form - relied on a methodology described as action research. This was an undramatic - but effective - long-term change process based on incremental improvements, effectively on a continuous flow of emergent strategies. Action research has become unfashionable with the advent of 'packaged' techniques such as business process re-engineering.
